This is a hands-on, high-impact role focused on creating rigour, consistency and accountability across our London operations, our South Bermondsey facility, and global event delivery.
About the Role
The Group Health & Safety Officer is responsible for leading EC’s health & safety agenda across the organisation - from our South Bermondsey facility through to live events in London and internationally.
You will take a practical, delivery-focused approach to ensuring safety standards are consistently applied, understood and embedded. Working closely with operational teams, you will translate policy into action - bringing structure, clarity and accountability to how safety is managed in real-world environments.
You will collaborate closely with the Group Compliance Manager, particularly in areas of shared responsibility such as ISO standards (including ISO 45001), audits and broader compliance frameworks, ensuring a joined-up and effective approach across the business.

You are comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving business
Experience & qualifications
Relevant H&S qualification (e.g. NEBOSH, CMIOSH) – this is non-negotiable
Proven experience in a Health & Safety role (events, production, logistics or similar environments preferred)
Strong understanding of UK H&S legislation and best practice
Experience with risk assessments and safe systems of work
Experience with audits and compliance standards (ISO 45001 experience advantageous)
Key responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership & Delivery
Own and embed health & safety practices across all business areas, including events, production and facilities
Ensure consistent application of H&S standards across UK and international operations
Act as the go-to expert, providing practical guidance that supports safe and effective delivery
Provide timely and accurate health & safety information to support tender submissions and RFP responses, ensuring all requirements are clearly addressed and aligned with best practice
Own and manage relationships with external health & safety partners and suppliers, leveraging their expertise to provide robust training, guidance and independent challenge to continuously strengthen EC’s safety standards
Operational Safety & Events
Oversee health & safety across all live event activity, ensuring appropriate risk assessments and safe working practices are in place
Partner with project and production teams to ensure safety is embedded into planning and execution
Support safe delivery in complex, fast-moving environments
Be an approachable, trusted partner for teams - creating an environment where people feel confident to ask questions, seek guidance and collaboratively find practical, safe solutions
Ensuring appropriate risk assessments and safe working practices are in place - supported by high-quality, practical RAMS through HandsHQ
Facilities & Workplace Safety
Collaborate with our Internal Operations Manager on H&S for the South Bermondsey facility, ensuring safe systems of work are in place and maintained
Partner closely with the Internal Operations Manager and Scenic, Technical and Floral teams to ensure safe systems of work are embedded within workshop and build environments, including equipment use, materials handling and fabrication processes
Conduct regular inspections, audits and reviews to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement
Ensure workplace environments support safe, efficient operations
Standards, Systems & Governance
Own and continuously evolve EC’s Health & Safety Manual, ensuring it is clear, practical and consistently applied across all areas of the business
Lead the Health & Safety Committee, setting agenda, driving accountability and ensuring actions are followed through
Own and develop HandsHQ (RAMS platform) as the central system for risk assessments, ensuring it is accurate, embedded and widely adopted across teams
Drive consistency and quality in RAMS, ensuring they are practical, proportionate and support safe delivery across all environments
Support and drive compliance with relevant standards, including ISO 45001
Partner with the Compliance Manager on audits, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives
Identify gaps, risks and opportunities to strengthen safety performance across the business
International Health & Safety
Establish a clear and practical approach to health & safety in international environments, ensuring standards are applied consistently while adapting to local requirements
Provide guidance and oversight on international event delivery, ensuring risks are understood and managed appropriately
Advise teams on travel-related health & safety, including risk awareness, preparation and safe working practices overseas
Support the development of international ESP’s, ensuring they are robust, locally appropriate and enable safe execution
Construction Design & Management (CDM)
Lead EC’s approach to CDM compliance, ensuring appropriate application of regulations across scenic builds, temporary structures and event installations
Advise on duty holder responsibilities (Client, Principal Designer, Principal Contractor), ensuring roles and accountabilities are clearly defined on relevant projects
Support project teams during planning and pre-construction phases, ensuring risks are identified, mitigated and documented appropriately
Ensure effective coordination and communication with contractors, freelancers and suppliers to maintain safe systems of work
Oversee the integration of CDM requirements into RAMS, project planning and site delivery, ensuring compliance is practical and embedded
Provide guidance to internal teams to ensure design decisions consider safety throughout the lifecycle (build, install, live event and de-rig)
Training, Engagement & Culture
Build awareness and capability across teams, ensuring individuals understand their role in maintaining safe environments
Deliver practical, accessible guidance that promotes confident, accountable behaviours
Ensure incidents, near misses and lessons learned are captured, shared and used to continuously improve safety practices across the business
Help foster a culture where safety is embedded, visible and owned by everyone
